Martin Brown BMX Coach is the founder of Smiley’s Flight Club, a coaching brand dedicated to helping riders of all levels improve their racing skills and confidence on the track. Known to most in the BMX community as Smiley, Martin’s nickname comes from his motocross and sidecar racing days before making the switch to BMX at 18. Starting out on pump tracks with no formal coaching available, Martin developed a fearless style, often recognised for pedalling hard and jumping big.
Since completing his BMX-specific coaching qualification in 2018, Martin has built a strong reputation for teaching riders “to fly.” This passion for progression led to the creation of Smiley’s Flight Club and the launch of the popular clothing brand Squash and Pop. Alongside private coaching, Martin has contributed significantly to British BMX racing, first serving as the North Region Talent Development Coach before leading the North Team to the School Games. Later, he organised BMX racing at the national School Games event.
Currently, Martin is the West Midlands Talent Development Coach and remains heavily involved in CPD through regular attendance at RSR and NSR sessions. His work continues to shape the next generation of riders, from novice beginners to champion elites, across Telford and beyond. Whether it’s individual sessions, club coaching with Telford Flyers, or regional programmes, Martin brings a mix of experience, enthusiasm, and technical knowledge to every rider he supports.
