Technical track analysis

A feature-by-feature breakdown of the Gosport track, drawn from BMX Race Hub’s official video track guide and POV hot lap.

The track at a glance

Gosport is a long, flowing circuit at well over 350m with unusually long corners, a steep start hill, big features and a standout rhythm section. Here’s what BMX Race Hub picks out as the key features riders need to know, corner by corner.

  • Start hill: A genuinely steep start that lets riders build speed fast, leading into a nice long transition onto the first jump. It’s a doable jump for everyone: smaller and younger riders will pop up onto the top, faster riders will look to manual it, and everyone needs to be back on the gas the moment they clear it.
  • First corner: A really big berm with both a challenge line and a pro line. Smaller riders can take a low inside line (watch for pedal strikes on the floor), while bigger, faster riders need to stay tight on the exit and avoid running wide.
  • Second corner entrance: Wide enough that the challenge and pro lines arrive together: challenge-line riders have to cross right over to an apex on the far side, while the pro line is a tighter, faster arc with a big, well-supported exit. Expect plenty of moves here, especially for control of the inside line.
  • Rhythm section: A long technical straight filled with various jumps, various combinations are available down this straight which rewards flow and efficiency.
  • Last corner: A big, well-supported corner on the exit leading onto a long final straight. It can be defended, but the surface gets slick as it warms up through the day, so expect some slides here, particularly in the knockout rounds late on race day.
  • Finishing straight: A long run from the top of the start hill all the way to the line, with plenty of room for late moves and drag races to the finish.
Riding it this weekend? Watch the full guide above before you bolt your number plate on; BMX Race Hub calls out exactly where the passing moves happen and where the track bites back once it warms up.

Getting there, parking and camping

Two separate sites to know: the track itself (parking via Grange Road) and the campsite at HMS Sultan Polo Field.

  • Parking opens from 09:00 on Friday 12 June, accessed via Grange Road, Gosport, PO13 8AS. Parking on the grass verge along Grange Road isn’t permitted; you’ll be asked to move.
  • Camping (campervans, caravans, motorhomes and tents) runs Friday 12 to Sunday 14 June at HMS Sultan Polo Field, Alder Lane, Military Road, Gosport, PO13 8NH, accessed via Military Road. The site opens at 10:00 on Friday. Pitches are 9m x 9m and unallocated, there’s a 22:00 noise curfew, no campfires or BBQs (gas stoves are fine), no dogs on the campsite, and it must be vacated within an hour of racing finishing on Sunday.
  • Disabled parking is available for Blue Badge holders: email a copy of your badge to clubsecretary@gosportbmx.co.uk once booked.
  • Toilets and showers are available on site and trackside.
