While we're on the subject of vintage motocross, visiting Classic Ads from the Motorbike Archives is a good way to kill 2 hours. Lots of history there.

Hi Point Highlights

Check out Video Highlights from High Point, courtesy of Motocross.com. I'm hooked on the video they've been producing. It's even better than the Speedvision broadcasts. Let's hope they continue to do it.

For Carmichael, after consulting the AMA, it was officially his 146th AMA National victory, and he sits on a 10-point championship lead over Stewart, even though he plans to vacate the series after round five at Red Bud.

Ricky Carmichael quickly took over the lead in the second moto, and that was it for racing up front. RC just stretched his lead all moto long and took the overall with a perfect 1-1 on the day.

There was a cool vintage bike show up on the vendor row, and there will be a Motocross Legends Tour during pre-race ceremonies on Sunday.

Ben Townley may have saved his season with a gutsy ride in the opening moto at High Point. After crashing on the start and then getting a wheel repaired in the mechanics area, Townley ran all the way back to 10th place for 11 very important championship points.

Ricky wins. Motocross Photos from Hangtown

What can you say? Ricky comes back for Motocross and takes a win over Stewart.

Hangtown was RC's 91st outdoor win, the seventh time he's won at that track, and his 147th AMA win.

Ricky Carmichael:

“James (Stewart) was pushing me, no doubt about it. We were back to where we were last year… The first moto came around and I felt good but I fell down, got back up and was trying to go again. He was just faster than me, he was riding good and he won the first moto… I’m just here, racing a few races, trying to help Makita Suzuki and do some testing and racing at the same time. I’m glad I’m here for the first five races to provide the fans with some good 450-class racing. I’m a fan now that I’m part-time, and it’s not fun to watch a race when there’s no one racing out there. But there’ll be good racing next week at High Point. They have epic fans there at Mt. Morris and whatever happens, it’s going to be good racing.”

Villopoto, Lawrence and Hill on the podium.

Davi Millsaps started up front, was in second when he had a small crash that dropped him to fifth, and he charged back to finish second, passing Michael Byrne, Tim Ferry, and Kevin Windham.

Out front, James Stewart ran a solo race. to take home his 12th win of the season. He also wrapped up a pair of number one plates, one each for the World title and the AMA title.

Q: Are you going to do any motocross, any two-wheel competition planned in the next couple of years?

RICKY CARMICHAEL: Going to do six outdoors and then the Motocross of Nations is in America this year. And I’m going to do that. That’s September. And then the rest is history for me. I’ve had all the fun I can stand and just really looking forward to driving. To be honest with you, that’s where my head’s been the last, I would say, four, 5 weeks.

Flat Tire: Carmichael’s Stock Car Debut

So, how did he do?

"Doyle Boatwright, the 2006 CMP Super Late Model champion, turned a best lap of 16.94 seconds, reportedly on fresher tires than Carmichael did while testing all day on the same set of Goodyear Eagles. ...In only his fourth time out in the car, Carmichael ran 10 consecutive laps covered by .25 seconds, between 17.10 and 17.35. His best lap for the afternoon was a 17-flat."

Ginn Racing development driver and motocross champion Ricky Carmichael made his stock car debut Saturday night in a super late model race here at Columbia Motorsports Park.

Under the watchful eye of Nextel Cup point leader Mark Martin, Carmichael finished third in his heat race. In the main feature, he overcame a second lap incident, but on Lap 7 of 25 his right-front tire went flat, sending his No. 4 Monster Energy Chevy into the wall and a premature exit from the race.

Fellow Ginn development driver Matt Martin finished fourth in his heat and seventh overall in the feature.

“Our goal for this event was to not focus on the result, but to focus on the things that we had to learn, ” said Martin. “Ricky had to learn the lay of the land and he did well with that tonight. He does know how to get up to speed quickly. We learned a ton tonight. I think we got the car working well for him by the feature and he was really fast. He just had a couple of unfortunate incidents. Part of it is racing and part of it will be more avoidable as he gets more experience and a better feel for what the cars around him will do. ”

Said Carmichael, “I learned every time I got behind the wheel what it was like to race as opposed to testing. Seat time was the big thing for me. I wish we could have fixed it up and gotten back out there. It’s just disappointing to me because what I didn’t want to happen (to fall out of the race) happened. But there is always another weekend and that’s the great thing about racing. ”

After a solid heat race, Carmichael started the feature inside of the second row. He held his own in the early going, before getting tangled up in an accident on the second lap. A car checked up in front of Carmichael, giving him no where to go with his Monster Energy Chevrolet. Though the contact sent the right wheels airborne, Carmichael was able to collect the car and continue, even holding his position for the next several laps before a debris caution was issued.

“I came off of turn two and got a good run, but the No. 8 car kind of came in on me and I just had no where to go, ” said the 27-year-old Carmichael. “I ran into the back of him and kind of got my Monster Energy Chevy up at an angle and it slammed down. I thought we were going to be okay after that, but the tire deal put us out of the race. That was very unfortunate for everyone involved. ”

Despite the incidents, Carmichael was pleased to gain valuable seat time.

“This was really, really fun for me, ” offered Carmichael. “It’s the competitive side of me that makes the result frustrating. I’ve learned so much that I can’t wait for the next race. “

Carmichael’s next two scheduled late model races will be April 21 and April 28 at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He is expected to compete in a total of 15 late model races this season.

Martin, who will see his streak of 621 consecutive starts come to an end today, enjoyed his role of mentor and teacher.

“I had a great night—it was a blast, ” said Martin. “I’m incredibly proud of Matt and Ricky and the way they drove tonight. I really enjoy working with them and helping Ricky make the transition from two wheels to four. “

“Ricky has another race coming up in a few weeks, ” added Martin. “We are going to continue to step up the challenge and a have a solid plan laid out for him.

This was the wreck in the St Louis main event where Chad Reed cut James Stewart off, right after getting passed. Video doesn't lie. Looks like a punk move to me.

If you didn't see the St Louis Supercross on Speedvision today, you missed out. I can't remember the last time somebody came through the pack as fast as James Stewart did. After tangling with Chad Reed and both going down, Bubba Stewart made his way from 19th position to 3rd position in just NINE LAPS, and soon thereafter overtook Reed for second. And we're not talking about a heat race. This was the main event.
